The Week After.

For all that I read and researched about marathon training, I know very little about what you are supposed to do or feel like in the week after the marathon.  We had a 10 hour drive home the day after the marathon.  I was sore and tired, and my knees felt like mush.  The next day was more of the same tired, sore, and mushy knees.  By day three most of the soreness was gone from my muscles and my knees were mostly better.  I’ve had two lingering problems.  One muscle in my left thigh was super tight and would not relax.  This meant I was limping around since walking normal would make the muscle give out on me.  It was pretty crazy, but my wonderful massage by my fabulous massage therapist, Leigh, seems to have fixed that problem.  I don’t feel 100% yet, but I am ready to run.  I’m feeling really exhausted and can’t tell if it’s because of the marathon, no running, or life.  The day we got back, my husband got really sick and was in bed all week.  The next day my son got sick and had to come home from school.  He’s finally better today.  It’s been a lot of added stress and exhaustion taking care of them on top of everything else.  I don’t know what’s wrong with them either.  You’d think they ran a marathon or something.  Ha!  That joke is still funny.

I’m ready to get out there and run.  I have a half marathon to run in a couple of weeks, and I already have my eye on a next marathon for the end of the year!
